Case study 04 · POS · Offline-first · Sinhala and English
A bilingual point of sale running in a real store
Summary
Ceylond POS is a point of sale system designed and built by Ceylond for Sri Lankan retail stores, and it is deployed in a working retail store. It switches between Sinhala and English in one click, prints receipts in either language, keeps selling when the internet drops, and gives managers a live dashboard with shift reconciliation.

The brief
The challenge.
Many Sri Lankan grocery and retail stores still run on paper or on imported software that only speaks English and stops when the internet does. Cashiers needed something fast in their own language, and owners needed to trust the cash at the end of every shift.
Approach
How we approached it.
- 01
Sinhala first, English one click away
Every screen and receipt works in Sinhala or English, switched instantly, so every cashier can work confidently.
- 02
Offline-resilient
Sales continue when the connection drops and sync when it returns, so the queue never stops.
- 03
Cash you can trust
Shift open and close, denomination counts, void reviews and alerts give owners a clear picture of every shift.
- 04
Built on the shop floor
Designed around real checkout habits: barcode first, big touch targets, parked bills and quick quantity changes.
The build
What we built.
- Checkout with barcode scanning, categories and search
- Sinhala and English interface and receipts
- Cash, card, bank transfer and store credit payments
- Parked sales synced across terminals
- Shift close with denomination counting
- Manager dashboard with alerts and void review
- Inventory and stock tracking with CSV export
- Thermal receipt printing
